Destiny 2 goes F2P with 'New Light'
Just following the Google Stadia Connect livestream earlier, more on that here, Bungie had an announcement of their own that Destiny 2 will be going free-to-play early this fall on September 17 to all supported platforms (PC, Stadia, PS4 & Xbox One). This is basically the 'vanilla' Destiny 2 experience, with the expansions playable at extra cost. All this has been rumored for a while, but only today verified by Bungie themselves.
This announcement also details that 'cross-save' functionality will be available on this date across PC, Xbox and just revealed PS4. Initially, it was believed that Sony might be a hold out on this feature as they are notorious for being stubborn in this way. It sounds like they made the decision to support this feature at the last minute before Bungie's announcement. They probably wanted to avoid more negative PR and angry reddit posts about it. Apparently, this will all be tied to a universal account to be detailed later-most likely similar to the way Epic Games' Fortnite save system works. That way players can move across platforms at will, without having to start the WHOLE game over every time. Players can move around with their progress with friends and family, etc. without worry.
I am personally excited about this feature, as I play mainly on the Xbox-but have dabbled with the PC version to test out mouse/keyboard and higher end graphics/performance. This is a great start to the post-ActiBlizzard Bungie era!
